Get It Scrapped ~ Humans Of New York Layout Inspiration

Hello scrappers! I have a super fun layout for you today! You can head on over to the Get It Scrapped blog to see my supply list, as well as the other team members who were inspired by this assignment.

If you’ve never heard of Humans Of New York (HONY) you can read more about it here. Basically, this photographer started photographing people on the streets of New York City. It has evolved into a world wide project where he tells the stories of the people he photographs. Our assignment was to make a layout based on the Humans Of New York photography project. I contemplated on what I wanted to do for this layout assignment for a long time. I eventually landed on making a layout about my middle son, Brynnan. I often feel like being the middle child he gets neglected, I don’t know what it is about the middle kid, but I really thing they don’t get as much attention. I decided to talk to him about doing a layout of him and seeing what story he wanted me to tell.

Well, his FAVORITE TV show right now is ‘Lego Ninjago’. He literally watches it every day for hours, if I let him. And he watches the same episodes over and over because Netflix only has a couple seasons available. Haha!

So, I took some photos of him playing with his little Lego Ninjago toys and had so much fun scrapping them.

This is my finished layout. I wanted to do some mixed media on the background behind the photos. I used Shimmerz Dazzlerz in Coral Me Crazy and Texturez Teal Me No Lies (I buy from the SpiegelMom scraps store, I’m on here design team).

I love this top cluster! I wanted to put Brynnan’s name on the layout, along with his age and this cluster helped ground that information.

I also used the 2 Cool 4 U sequin mix from the SMS shop.

I used a lot of rub-ons on this layout and it was so fun! I’m not really big on using them so it was a little bit out of my comfort zone.

I really love these cute little ephemera pieces from the December Clique Kits kit.

Instead of me doing the writing I had Brynnan write on a project life card. He doesn’t have the greatest handwriting and I didn’t want that to take away from the design of the layout so I decided to make a little pocket behind the photo to put the journaling card in. I stapled a little black polka dotted tag to the top and  I really love how it looks!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Be sure to head on over to Get It Scrapped to check out the post highlighting all the layouts the creative team made. You can also watch my process video below:

Get It Scrapped Sketch #119

Hello scrappy friends! I am up on the GIS blog today with a sketch layout. I really love how this one turned out! You can find the post here with the other layouts the creative team members made as well as mine.

This is the sketch, made by Debbie Hodge for Get It Scrapped. If you’ve never visited her website, you should come on over! I really love all the classes and everything she has to offer with her membership.

This is the layout I made with the sketch. I decided to only use 5 photos and the rest of the spots I filled with paper and journaling.

I used an old Pink Paislee Christmas/Winter themed collection, which was perfect for these photos. For the title I used ‘Marquee’ thickers from American crafts.

I had a lot to say in the journaling spot so it kind of spilled over more than I had wanted it too, but I’m glad that I wold the whole story.

I kept my embellishing to a minimum so you can focus on the photos as you look around the layout.

I really love that I decided to layer more than one pattern paper behind the main photo on the left. I love that they bring your eye to that photo first and then the title.

I really love capturing these fun winter memories of my boys!

You can watch the process video below and the blog post is over on Get It Scrapped here.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Scrap the Decade for Get It Scrapped

Hello and welcome back to my blog! I am up over on the Get it Scrapped blog today with some of the other fabulous Creative Team Members. Our assignement was to pick a decade and be inspired to scrap a page. I picked the 1980’s because, well, that was the decade I was born in.

I had also actually been thinking about a specific memory from that time, when I was about 2 or 3. Some of you might remember the Cabbage Patch Kid Dolls and how huge they were in the early to mid 80’s. My parents gave my sister and me a doll each and I vividly remember when my sister opened hers and what my dad said. Isn’t that crazy how there are little moments in life that stand out like that? I mean, I was 2 years old!!

Ok, so let’s move onto my layout:

When I first got this assignment I had immediately thought of the Wonder Collection, that’s a year or two years old. I had bought some of the papers and the alpha, but hadn’t used them yet. I was so excited to pull them out for this layout.

I found the photo in the top left in a pile of old photos my mom had sent me a few years ago. It was a Christmas picture, but not from the specific year we got the dolls. I was really excited to use it on this layout though because it does portray that it’s Christmas.

I then went to google, my trusty companion a lot of the time, and looked for images of Cabbage Patch Kids. I found the logo and this blonde haired doll and they were perfect!

I first started thinking I would title the layout something like ‘the 80’s’ or ‘a 1980’s Christmas’, but the more and more I thought about it I just really didn’t like them. I took to the internet to ask my scrappy friends and between two friends I came out with this title and I just love it!! ‘Proud Member of the Cabbage Patch Fad’, it’s so perfect!

In Your Pocket Tuesday: Over at the Crafty Maven Getaway

Hello Hello!! I am up on the Crafty Maven Getaway YouTube Channel today. Here’s a couple photos, you can find my process video below:

For these Pocket Scrapbook pages I have a bunch of random photos I want to get in my album. They’re all from different days, but I thought they were still cute and good stories to tell.

I loved this 3×4 card from the Cinnamon Edition Project Life kit. I just cut it down and stuck some enamel dots on it and was done with this cute and simple card.

I titled these pages Normal Life because that’s exactly what all the photos were portraying. I really love this card and thought it was perfect to use!

Thanks for stopping by!! I hope you’re having a great week so far!

Cut File Freebie and a Layout Process video Over at SpiegelMom Scraps!!

Hello and Happy Happy Monday!! Monday is actually one of my favorite days of the week, is that crazy/weird?!! For me Monday means back to a ‘normal’ schedule. The kids all go off to school, I have time to think without them asking every 5 seconds if they can play this or that electronic device and my husband goes back to work and I am FREE to do what I want to do. Not that I don’t get to do that over the weekend! lol I actually do have a lot of free time over the weekend, but I always feel so guilty about using it.

Anyway!! Wow, that was a very long winded intro! Ok, let’s jump into today’s video and post!

I posted over at the SpiegelMom Scraps blog yesterday. You can find that post here. I wasn’t able to post the video that went along with this layout though so that is finally up on YouTube today! Yay! You can watch that below or on my YouTube channel.

Thanks for stopping by today!! Don’t forget to check out the photos and explanation and thought process over on the SMS blog! Also, If you make a purchase at the shop you can use the code MEgan15 to get 15% off your order!

Get It Scrapped Sketch #117

Hello my friends!! I am up on the Get it Scrapped blog today with a sketch layout. This one was taken from the Scrapbook Coach Class called Top Heavy. Come on over to the blog and get more inspiration from the creative team.

This is the sketch we used:

Here’s a closer look at my layout below:

I used my summer kits from Citrus Twist Kit Club for this layout.

I have been wondering how I would ever use this house ephemera piece and it worked perfect on this layout about my sisters and I hanging out in my grandma’s backyard playing by the swing.

I used the Amy Tangerine ‘Alyx’ chipboard alpha and I LOVE how it looks on this layout!

I love the simple look these tags give my date and journaling and that little cloud is just adorable!! octobersketch1

December is HERE!!

Happy December everyone!! I don’t know about you but I am super excited about this month and I have so many plans! I can’t wait to share them all with you!

First up, let’s talk December Daily! If you didn’t know, I posted a video talking about my thoughts on December Daily and how awesome it is. I have changed it to work for me and I have loved doing it these past 2 years, this will be my third year doing it. I have 2 videos up on my YouTube channel so far and you can watch them here and here.

I am planning on printing off my pictures every day after my kids are in bed and working on the layout for that day. The next morning I will finish editing the previous days video and upload it to YouTube sometime in the afternoon. I am really hoping I can keep up with this project and be finished with it on December 26th. If I don’t get it done by then I won’t be upset at myself or anything, but my biggest goal is to be done with it before the new year.

Second, I have a blog post up from earlier today that is a hop with the other SpiegelMom Scraps Sparkler Design Team members. Here’s the link to the post on my blog if you haven’t seen it yet. Make sure you hop along and leave comments!

Thanks for stopping by today!!
