Last week I had big plans for the kitchen! And I started out strong! Monday and Tuesday I did everything I wrote down I needed to do. Here are pictures to prove it:
First I cleaned out the medicine cabinet. I don’t remember if I wiped it down when I did this last year, but it was pretty dirty!! I had to let it sit for a while and I sprayed it about 3-4 times to get that back stain out!
I did get it all spotlessly clean eventually and it looks soooo much better now.
I cleaned under the sink. This is the before picture….
And the after! Ohhh, it looks good! 🙂
I decided to put contact paper down so it would look prettier and also be easier to wipe clean.
I had to do it in small sections so I started with the back.
This is the after picture. Yes, I didn’t finish it all the way and I really need to, but the trash bags conveniently cover up this patch of white so it hasn’t bothered me too much. I think I will put this little bit on my to do list this week so I can be all done! 🙂
I cleaned out some of the cabinets, which didn’t get done last year so I was glad to do it this year!!
And my favorite and not so favorite part of last week was the dishwasher. This thing was SO dirty!! It was GROSS!!!
The part under the door was the worst!! It was all mildewy and cruddy!! I’ve had my eye on that part for about a month now, but it just made me sick to look at it so I didn’t want to clean it.
The inside was very much water damage. Do you like the bluish tint? That’s from our knock off brand of dishwasher pellets! Yeah, it turns the dishwasher blue. It’s very interesting!
After I was done scrubbing the hard water spots and crud I ran the dishwasher:
I followed along to Jenn’s instructions on how she cleaned her dishwasher and it worked like a charm! This is the after picture. Yes, you can still see some hard water spots, but there aren’t as many now!
Doesn’t that look amazing under where the door closes??!! No more crud and mildew!! It was CLEAN!!!
I ran the dishwasher on a heavy load cycle with vinegar in the bottom and a glass of vinegar in the top rack. I think I’ll do this once every 3 months. The next time I do it I’ll add more vinegar though. I was running out very quickly so I had to use it sparingly at the end.
So, how does it look?

Once it was all done I felt so GREAT!! It was finally clean! I’ve had this dishwasher for almost 2 years now and this is the first time I’ve ever deep cleaned it. I really think it’s a good idea to do it at least every 3-6 months! It’s going on my list of chores definitely!
Well, thanks for stopping by! I hope you’re having a great Tuesday and getting all your cleaning and organizing done! I hope you’ll stop by tomorrow to see what new Christmas present post I have for you!
Tune in Tokyo! Oooh, I need to do this for sure. My dishwasher has so much hard water crap in it…
Looks great Meg. I have heard that Maleluca sells something that is called Lemon Bright or something like that. It is supposed to work miracles for hard water spots on dishes and your dishwasher.
