I think I’ve told you that for me, doing crafts with my kids is hard. I’m a perfectionist and my kids ARE NOT!! LOL I mean, what kid is? They do things their way and sometimes it’s not so pretty. I have a hard time letting go, even the little things, but since the older boys are home all day during the summer I’ve been trying to come up with fun activities we can all do together. I’m excited to share these ideas with you in the coming months!! Today, I have a project that Jonas was REALLY excited about! That doesn’t happen all that often. jonas is my video game/TV lover. He doesn’t really like to color or draw or paint. Brynnan on the other hand LOVES doing these things!
Jonas brought home a bird house he made in scouts a couple months ago and has been asking to paint it all week so I finally decided that we had some time after dinner on Sunday. Of course the other 2 had to join in too, which I was a little worried about, but it all worked out in the end! 🙂
Jonas picked out 4 colors. I told him he could pick as many or as few colors as he wanted. He decided on 4.
He started with red and painted the front. It was really hard for me not to grab the brush and just get it done with, but I left him alone and let him do the painting at his own pace.
I bought Brynnan a little $1 bird house at Jo-Ann’s fabric last year and he decided it needed a makeover. He liked that Jonas was only using 4 colors and covering the whole bird house. He did the same, using the same colors.
Tinian was REALLY upset that I didn’t have a bird house for him! I tried to appease him with paper, but that wasn’t good enough so I asked the hubs to go get a piece of scrap wood from the garage. I figured that wouldn’t make him happy either, but to our surprise he thought it was GREAT!! Woohoo!! I let him pick out the colors and just squeezed out a little bit of paint for him to use and he was happy!
We let Jonas and Brynnan’s bird houses and Tinian’s work of art dry over night. The next day I let the boys decide if they wanted the houses hung in the tree in the backyard or front yard.
They chose the front yard. Here they are in all their glory. Now I just need to find somewhere to buy a small amount of bird seed at. Mark found a BIG bag of it at walmart, but we really don’t need/want that big of a bag!
I haven’t decided what to do with Tinian’s work of art… I might just put it in my craft room and do something fun with it whenever I get around to it.
I guess I shouldn’t worry too much about doing crafts with my kids! I’m actually looking forward to the next one we do!
Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to come back tomorrow! I have a YUMMY guest post to share with you! Hope you have a Wonderful Wednesday! 🙂
Well look at you and “your form” of mothering. 🙂 Which is WONDERFUL. You are the best mom I know, Megs. I mean that. Your kids are so lucky to have you.
Thanks Kar! 🙂
They turned out great! A great pop of color for your front lawn!
