Fashion Friday

Well, hello there!! Didn’t think you’d see me this whole week, huh? Yeah, I’m surprised I made it too! lol This week has been crazy. Not because I’m sooo busy, just because I haven’t felt like doing anything really important, like cleaning my house and blogging, I’ve been busy being… lazy…. haha.

Ok, not really. I have gotten chores done this week, at least vacuuming and dishes. That’s good, right? I’ve been organizing my craft area shelving. I spent one afternoon this week cleaning the garage. It is FAR from being organized, but I was excited to make some headway in that crazy mess! I’ll share before and after pictures next week.

I decided that this week would be my week to organize my craft area a bit more. It’s been going ok, but I’ve mainly been having fun making birthday cards. I’m trying to get so caught up on making them that I don’t have to worry about it anymore. Someone’s birthday is coming up? No problem!! I don’t have to rush to finish a card I can just put one in the mail:) Yes, that is my goal. I want to be a store of my own for birthday cards. hehe My goal was 2 cards a day, I knew realistically that was crazy but I’m always crazy ambitious on Sundays when I make my weekly schedule. Are you like that?

I finished my fourth card today. Today I want to make 2 more. I’m trying to be realistic and not say I want to do 10! haha I also want to make a scrapbook page to post for Silhouette Saturday so we’ll see how that goes:) Wish me luck!

Now on to the reason for this post… This week I started “training” to run a 5k. I said training in quotes because I’m the one training myself and it just seems wierd to say that when it’s just you doing it and not with an actual trainer, you know?

I’m doing the Couch to 5k program. It’s kicking my butt after only 2 days!!! UGH!And all I’ve been doing is jogging and walking intermittently. I’m really glad that’s how the program is! The first week you jog for 60, then walk for 90. That’s goooood enough for me! I have really bad knees and ankles so I like the idea of going at a slow pace.

Since we’re talking about Fashion today I want to know what you wear when you work out? I used to wear old pj’s, but in the last year I’ve started getting into working out off and on and decided it was time to get a real workout wardrobe. For my birthday I bought some NICE workout capri pants that absorb your sweat or whatever. I can’t remember what they’re called, but I heart them!!! And I bought two of the same kind of shirts. The shirts are amazing! I’ve washed mine a lot so they have kinda lost their pizzaz, but they’re still Awesome!

I’m not very good at picking out bras, especially sports bras. Is this a wierd subject to talk about on a craft blog? lol Well, I’m going to talk about it anyway… I’m a cheap skate. I buy the cheapest bras you can find. I don’t know why. I just feel like I shouldn’t have to pay $40 bucks for a nice bra. So I pay $15 for a cheap one instead and I’m not as comfortable or wearing the right ones, but at least I didn’t break the bank. I did break down about a year ago when JCPenney had an amazing sale on GOOD bras and I bought 1. I wish I could’ve bought more!! Now that bra is broken because I put it in the dryer and it caught on some clothes and the wires got all funky. I was so mad at myself for doing that!!!

Anyway, how do you know if you’re buying a good sports bra? What’s a good brand? What’s a good brand for a normal bra? And what’s a good price to pay. I hate paying full price, but I wonder if you have to sometimes to get the best bra. If you’re a runner and  you have some good advice I’d love to hear it! I used to run in high school, but even back then I wasn’t really good at it and I didn’t know very much about it.

Here is what my workout clothes look like:

Please ignore how hideous I look in my workout clothes!! Also, I had my 5&7 year olds take this picture so it’s not the greatest. I wanted them to take it before school so I hurried and got dressed and hadn’t even brushed my hair yet. Blah. Please don’t make fun of me. I have a goal of 25 pounds to lose.

I just bought the new running shoes, do you like? I LOVE them!! They’re SO Comfy!!I was using my ooooold tennis shoes that I bought when I was 18 and living with my dad right out of high school. Yeah, that was 10 years ago! They were not comfy at all and totally didn’t fit me after having 3 kids. My feet have grown one size bigger since I bought them, is that normal? I used to wear 8 now I’m in 9’s. I think it’s weird.

This year I need to invest in some good bras and some more workout clothes. My friend, Marcy, gave me one of her headbands today, which I am SO thankful for!!! It was 30 degrees out when I went running with the babes, Tinian and my dog Nemo:) If she hadn’t given it to me I think my ears would’ve fallen off, not joke!! I didn’t wear gloves and I regretted that! Marcy also is letting me borrow her jogging stroller and it has been awesome!! Thanks so much Marcy!

Ok, now that I’ve blabbed on for way too long I’ll let you give me advice, if you have any. I appreciate it and thank you in advance!! Thanks for all the great comments you have been leaving as my readers! It really makes my day to read them all, not that there are very many, but we’re working on that:) hehe

What do you workout in? Old rags, like I used to and sometimes still do if the good stuff is gross and dirty? Or nice new duds? Let us know! I’m going to start doing a weekly post on my weightloss and running progress to help motivate me. Lucky you!:) lol I hope it will motivate you too! I really need to drop some pant sizes. I’m trying to watch what I eat too, but that is really hard for me!!

Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to hearing your thoughts! If you have a blog leave your link so I can come visit you and leave some loving comments! I’m always looking for new bloggy friends:)

Have a Great Easter weekend!! We woke up to snow this morning, at least 3 inches!!! UGH! So I guess I’ll be doing Zumba on the Wii for my workout today. I’m kinda bummed about that! I was actually looking forward to running today:) I hope the snow doesn’t continue!! We’re going to visit my hubby’s parents for the holiday. I guess we’ll see if it keep up. Hope you’re weather is better than ours!

  1. Good for you megan! Working out is not only fabulous and healthy for the body, but it’s great for emotional health too! When I workout I have several pair of capris that I wear, and a few different colored shirts that I rotate. I do most of my working out at a rec center and I think it’s funny to see the women who wear crazy expensive work out “outfits”…and they hardly ever break a sweat, like it’s a beauty contest or something. Something comfortable and not too expensive is what I go for, that way I don’t feel guilty when I soil them with sweat! Good luck and keep it up!

  2. i’m like you, i wear pj’s to work out in. sometimes, sweatpants. in the summer, if u wear shorts, maybe buy some spandex shorts to go under. the shorts will ride up..but when u have an after baby belly, i found it really hard to run, have my shirt go up a little, show off my little flab…so, maybe invest in a tummy wrap. they have one at walmart i think that velcros around the tummy (its a tummy sweat band) but it was great. i just had to tighten up pants over time. i did the couch to 5k program, you’ll get stronger and that alone makes u feel good. congrats for getting going! running shoes r super important. so, good thing u got new ones. i had a pair and ignored the air sole that popped…it messed up my knee a little with the difference. for sport bras, i have a few, not great, i’m cheap too. but i did get the clips for the bra straps? ya know what i mean? it tightens the bra up and i can run in regular bras now. as long as u are comfortable and dont have to think of anything but the run or workout, ur good. the worst is having to worry about how u look while ur trying and tired. i know it sounds crazy, but running around a track constantly pulling shorts down or my pants up to cover the belly was awful. you just dont think of it when ur walking.

  3. Wow excellent goal, best of luck with the 5k!

Sports bras are difficult, I’ve tried a few in different activity levels – but I’ve found that adjusting a regular bra to a tight setting on length and girth (around the underbust) is practically the same as the lower level sports bras. For running though I’d suggest at least starting with a high activity level one because they tend to be thicker and offer more sturdy support on the underbust but I find the the straps can be too long even when adjusted. If you find that too, you can always crossover the straps on the back for better support or buy a crossover one. Sports bras aren’t really comfortable to start off with but as you lose weight and tone up your breasts get smaller as well and the bras feel more comfortable.

It’s good that you bought new trainers/sneakers as wearing old ones can really cause damage, like when my dance trainers had had enough, I’d only have to wear them for a couple of minutes and the next day I could barely walk because my hips would kill me. Good working shoes are an investment, especially as you’re aiming for long term training.

I understand having bad knees and ankles – I find that stretchy knee and ankle guards really help take the pressure off and once you get used to walking and running a lot you won’t need to wear them as much. They’re really cheap too.

  4. I don’t do much but ride a bike when it’s fixed and random leg lifts when I feel I’ve been too lazy… but I like comfy t-shirt and sweat capris. And yes, feet increasing size is normal after becoming a mom. I went from a 7 to and 8, sometimes and 8 1/2. But I’ve talked to other moms who’ve had the same thing happen to them. Something about things relaxing and spreading out. I think when you are lugging around your pregnancy body weight multiple times it makes sense!

  5. It looks like you and I could be workout buddies…if we weren’t living so far apart from each other! I’m with you and Tiff, comfy clothes! Capris and basketball shorts are great! I use the shirts that pull the moisture away from your skin, cause I usually am a sweaty mess by the time I hit 20 miles on my bike. They’re awesome! Good luck on the running!

  6. Oooh, let’s jog together, Megs!!! I have a jogging stroller, too. Tell me you meant jog for 60 seconds and walk for 90 seconds, and not 60 minutes/90 minutes. Because that would kill my knees, too. Oh, and I used to be a size 7 1/2 and now I’m a size 9. I told my cousins that last week when we got together, and they couldn’t believe that. They’ve had kids, too – how did that not happen to them???

  7. I’m proud of you meg! I’ve heard of the couch to 5k program and it is really exciting that you are doing it! Get a workout buddy! It makes it so much easier to stick with it. Love ya.

  8. Wow, way to go, Megan! I hope to get into running this summer, as well. I think your blog wll definitely help motivate me 🙂 As for sports bras…I haven’t reaad the above poss, but I like a good underwire with thick straps by Everlast. ‘Hope that helps! Good luckwith your program!

  9. You can do it! The hardest part is working the time into your day and having the motivation to folllow through. Before I had Riley I ran my first marathon and during my training I lost 35 pounds. Since Riley I’ve run in a couple of 5K’s. The running community is amazing. If you haven’t already checked out runnersworld.com I highly recommend it. They have great stories of inspiration and tips to keep you motivated. Good luck! Thanks so much for sharing at Whimsy Wednesdays!
