A lot is in a name!! Especially a business name! I started my photography business so many years ago!! I was still in school and it wasn’t my biggest concern at the time so I just name it after me, Megan Blethen. Now I am realizing how hard that name is to say. Actually, I have been realizing it for the past 5 years. When someone wants my web address I have to spell everything out to them. If they want my email address I have to do the same thing and I’m sure people get it wrong all the time. I wonder how many clients I have lost because of my name. Blethen is a hard name to spell. People get it wrong all the time. I’ve been thinking I want to change the name of my business for the last year, at the least, probably more than that. Lately, I’ve been thinking about it more because I would really like to start doing it a lot more. Ever since I had my baby I’ve kind of taken a break and done a few sessions here and there.
Well, it’s time for me to get back in the game! And I’m wondering if changing my name would benefit the business or not. What do you think? Is Megan Blethen Photography easy to say? Would you be turned away because the name is hard to say?
I actually do have another website address for this reason. It’s photomegan.com. If people call me and ask for my website I give them that one. Does it sound too informal or not professional? I got it because it was easier to give out to people, but it links you right up to meganblethenphotography.com.
What other name would I use? I don’t know. I’ve been thinking about it….
Megan Rene Photography (Rene is my middle name, but I realize that this one could be misspelled to seeing as my middle name is only spelled with one ‘e’ on the end which isn’t normal for a girl)

Portraits by Megan or Portraiture by Megan(This sounds more elegant, to me at least)
And that’s about all I’ve got. What do you think? Do you have any ideas? I’m obviously so bad at coming up with names! Look at the one I chose first! lol:) I would love to hear your feed back on this!

I like Portraits by Megan. It is elegant and I think of you that way, but PhotoMegan is really easy to remember. I’d say go with your gut. However, taking a poll is a great idea too. Feedback is so nice. 🙂 Hope mine was helpful.
what if you simplified and just did MB Photography, or MB Portraits. Maybe not use your name in it? likeTop Notch Pics or Amazing Portraits.. something thats unique and memorable. I have a friend in RI and she has a photo business. her last name is Speck, so she called her company, Specktacular Photography. Photos by Meg or Portraits by Meg is nice. Unless you dont like Meg. I’d play around with it, type it up and make it fancy, see what jumps at you. Test it on pics, see if you like how it looks. I think a name is important. It’s the first impression! ya know? I mean, they’ll see your work on website, but the name should catch em.
