Let’s Get Organized ~ Week 6!

How was your weekend? I hope well. Mine was the same old thing, except my friend and her kids came over last night for dinner. That was a lot of fun!:)

Last week I told you I was working on Organizing my craft area, remember the hideous before pictures? It was a lot of fun, but I’m not done. My husband bought some shelves and brackets from Lowe’s and he hung those up for me on Wednesday after dinner. I had to clear most everything off of my desk. I stuck everything in the laundry room because I knew I wouldn’t have time to put it away immediately.

Here they are all hung up. It look so much better like this!! I LOVE it so far! I’m still in the process of organizing everything. I have so many different color and types of organizing containers that the shelves don’t look very pretty, no matter how organized it is!! So I’ll continue working on this and keep you updated.

I added the two shelves that I had on the floor with my plastic storage bins to the top of my desk. I didn’t like having the paper so far off of the desk, which is wierd because it wasn’t even that far away!! lol Another reason I decided to move it all onto the desk is so my baby would stop making wonderful messes with my envelopes and everything that he could reach!! I’m changed the orientation of the paper shelf too. I didn’t like it laying down flat becuase it was too hard to pull out the paper on the bottom. This has been working great for the past 5 days!!

I know it still looks messy and unorganized, but it was 10:00 and I didn’t feel like finding a spot for everything yet!! lol It doesn’t look like that now, I am happy to report. I’m trying to be better about cleaning up after doing a craft so it doesn’t get so messy.

Anyway, on to this week…. I actually haven’t decided what I’m going to organize yet!! Crazy, I know. I had bookcases on my list for this week, but I think we’re gong to save up some money and do some more shelving like in my craft area so the baby doesn’t keep grabbing stuff off of all the bookcases. We have to chase him down so many times a day now!! So, if we can get at least the videos and games up off of the low bookcases I think we’ll be ok. Plus, maybe it would look a lot nicer too.

I think I might go back and work on everything I haven’t been able to organize so far, like the living room coat closet and the paper clutter from the bench in the living room. Ok, I guess that’s it. This week will be a catch up week!:) I’ll start by tackling the paper clutter.

My bench in the living room and my table collect a lot of crap. I’m really bad at letting it pile up!!! SO, I’m going to get ahold on things. The table is off limits for anything except food and plates and utencils, etc. I can’t even set the mail on the table for a second because before I know it, it’s been an hour and more clutter has already gathered!!

New rules for my house:

#1. No paper allowed on the table (Includes, but is not limited to, magazines, mail, trash, school papers, work papers, crafts, homework, books)

#2. Nothing gets left on the table that doesn’t belong their, i.e. hand towels or wash rags used to clean up spills, dirty placemats, toys, books

My kids do their homework at the table so I’m going to have to find a different place for them to do their homework. We have a coffee table downstairs that they can use (we don’t use the coffee table for coffee, is there a better name for it? I feel so weird calling it a coffee table, especially since we don’t drink it.) and they have a little kiddie table. We also have Mark’s old desk from when he was a kid and teenager. It is currently the holder of sewing crap and a humidifier so I’m not sure that will be available for them for a long while!

SO, with those two new rules in mind, I’m sure I’ll have a fun week of organizing ahead of me! I hope you have a good week too!!
