Victoria Marie Design Team Challenge for May 2016 ~ Use Ugly Paper!

Hello again friends!! I have a new monthly challenge for you today over at the Victoria Marie FB Group. Victoria has changed up how shes doing challenges now and there is only going to be a monthly challenge and there will be 2 or 3 design team members on duty in that month. For this first month I was paired up with Cacie and Christy. We thought it would be fun to challenge ourselves and everyone else to find a few “Ugly” pieces of paper and use them on a scrapbook layout.

I went through my stash and got out some older papers and picked out a few ugly pieces.

These are the 2 main pieces I start out with. I do add a third ugly paper as I make the layout that’s from a Creative Memories paper pack from about 10 years ago.

This is my finished layout! I really LOVE how it turned out! As I was first making it I had a bad feeling about it and wasn’t getting it down on the paper like I wanted to so I turned to Cacie and Christy for help in figuring out how to make it a layout I actually like and didn’t hate. lol I’m so glad to have met these amazing ladies and to be able to work with them! They helped me out so much! It’s so nice to have scrappy friends that I can turn to when I get stuck.

For the Title on this layout I used a wood veneer that said ‘I Dream of You’, but instead of keeping it that way I covered up the word ‘You’ with that wood veneer bird and then used an Amy Tangerine thicker alpha called ‘Hello’ and spelt out the word ‘leaves’. So now the title reads ‘I Dream of Leaves’. I love how that worked out!

VMuglypaperMay2016-10 I used my Silhouette Cameo and some cardstock from my stash to create leaves as embellishment around the layout. I think this is probably my most favorite part of the layout! It added that missing element it didn’t have before I put them down.

This wood veneer tag is from an older Amy Tangerine collection as well. The wood textured tag peeking out behind it was actually a card that I decided to use on the layout. I love the color and the texture of the wood on it. You can also kind of see the Regular Gel Medium that I put on the “ugly” paper to help spice it up a bit behind the tags and leaves.

I actually made 5 little leaf cluster areas and I am happy with the way they turned out. We’re often told to make our clusters in a triangle shape and in three’s, but I felt like I needed to break that “rule” for this layout. I really love having all the leaves scattered around the layout.

This is my most favorite cluster of all. I’m not always the best at layering and sticking things in behind other things and so this cluster just seemed to fall into place easily. Don’t you love it when that happens?!!

I hope you will join us this month and make a layout with some of your “ugly” paper. If you don’t have any paper that is ugly, per se, maybe try finding a paper that isn’t your favorite. I’ve been scrapbooking a long time so it wasn’t easy for me to find a couple of older papers that I used to like, but now I don’t. lol

If you’re not a member of the facebook group yet, come on over and join us! There are challenges every month hosted by the design team and also Victoria does a sketch challenge every once in a while too. It’s a really fun group to be a part of! I have really loved being on the design team! This is actually my last official challenge as a design team member, which is really sad, but I will still be around playing along with everyone!
